More than 50 million people braced Saturday for a big storm, Hurricane Sandy churned northward on a collision course with another storm system that is coming from the west. People were being evacuated and federal officials issued urgent warnings for people to prepare. They were saying that the storm would stretch to the Ohio Valley. It was going to bring rain and wind Sunday morning to the North Carolina coast. The article said "Federal officials, in a briefing with reporters on Saturday afternoon, could not say for certain where the impact would be the worst - only that it would be major" (1).
Hurricane Sandy is making a really big impact on the Mid to Eastern United States. It has bought a lot of chaos and destruction to the eastern boarder. "In New York City, officials announced contingency plans to begin shutting down the subways and regional rail lines starting at 7 p.m. Sunday, a decision they will make only if it looks like storm surges would be severe. They announced plans to close the bridges if there were sustained winds over 60 miles per hour." (1). Hurricane Sandy didn't allow us to travel because of how severe it became. We had to shut down all modes of transportation and shut down all schools.
The article has taught me about all that could happen if a storm comes near and is really severe. When states are in danger, authorities and government take action. They decided to be even more prepared this time based on what happened last year with Hurricane Irene. We all remember Irene, and that's why we had to take extra precautions with Hurricane Sandy. We had to try to protect all the states in order for things to go well and not let Sandy give damage. Although the state of New Jersey protected themselves so as not to suffer the flooding they suffered last year with Irene.
