Social Issues in The Things They Carried

 Question: What really hard things are happening in this text? Are these things happening in the world now? Where?

  War. What is happening is war. Everyday these soldiers were in the war. In The Things They Carried by Tim O' Brien the soldiers are participating in a war where they are both scared and yet curious to what will happen while they're here away from home.
  Being in the war seems to be a big issue right now. This was happening in Iraq between them and the United States. It was a big problem for their families, but it was mostly a problem for the soldiers. These soldiers had to be shipped away to another country and be risking their lives by serving their country. They worried sometimes. They wondered whether they'll live or die.
  One point in the book, the author mentioned something about the war contradicting you. The book said the war made you a man, the war made you dead. The whole point of this? The war can rearrange your mind and affect it in ways you couldn't possibly imagine. It will always affect you and scar you for the rest of your life. The war was nasty, yet it was fun. The war made you think. It worried your brain with all these thoughts.
  The war impacted the mind filling it with emotions. Fear, joy, anger, depression, cowardice, courage, honor. All things soldiers could've thought of. Soldiers could've felt these things, possibly less or more. When it came to emotions, they were all full of it. They all just combined it together and didn't know how to express it. To them, they were emotionless. It was all weird for them. Lot's of things occurred while at the war that involved emotions. Rat Kiley lost Curt Lemon. Lieutenant Jimmy Cross finally knew that it was time to move on from Martha. Ted Lavender and Lee Strunk were lost one day when they were both injured and died.
  War is a big problem that might not affect everyone but still affects a lot of people. It could just press your mind and soul into thinking about what to do, whether it's right or wrong. It all affects us in someway. It could just hurt you and you could never see it coming. It will just hit you like a gun shot. It"ll be quick, but still painful. It's just all war out there.
