Reading Response on Social Action

Question: How does this text deal with individuals and groups? Are the people acting alone and in competition with one another, or does the text help us imagine people working together?

 First Lieutenant Jimmy Cross was standing alone. He was looking for Kiowa, but not with the others. He looked alone and decided what to tell his father. The others searched together. Mitchell Sanders was telling the others that it was the Lieutenant's fault because he didn't realize they were camping out in a 'shit field'. While reading The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, Jimmy seems to be an individual while Mitchell Sanders has his group of the other soldiers. 
 While searching for Kiowa's corpse, Jimmy Cross was looking but he was looking while thinking about how it could've been his fault. What he didn't know was that another individual was looking, but not for Kiowa. He was looking for a picture of his girlfriend Billie. He blamed himself for showing Kiowa the picture of his girlfriend. It was because he shined his flashlight on his picture that caused the field to explode. When the field exploded, Kiowa died. The individual wanted to tell Jimmy Cross about the exploding field. 
 Jimmy Cross and the lone soldier were both individuals thinking about their own problems while looking for Kiowa. Mitchell Sanders and the other cared too much for Kiowa that they searched together. They occasionally had a moment of silence, but that didn't stop them from looking together. Jimmy Cross concentrated on writing a letter to Kiowa's dad. The lone soldier was concentrated on finding the picture of his girlfriend. And the others looked for Kiowa's corpse everywhere. 
 When Kiowa's corpse was finally found, Mitchell Sanders, Azar, and Norman Bowker tried taking it out of the mud in the field. Azar and Norman Bowker suggested getting help from the Lieutenant, but Mitchell Sanders said the Lieutenant looked happy where he was and didn't take the suggestion. They ended up asking help from Rat Kiley and Henry Dobbins. They were able to take the corpse out of the dirt.
 Mitchell Sanders doesn't seem to want Jimmy Cross to get involved ever since Kiowa died. He seems to blame Jimmy for a simple mistake. Jimmy Cross didn't mean to make them camp out in a 'shit field'. Mitchell Sanders seemed to make his own group while Jimmy Cross was just left alone with guilt for the death of Kiowa. I felt bad for Jimmy Cross, he didn't need to be alone. He just needed to think while being with the other men. Mitchell Sanders should've taken Azar and Norman Bower's advice and asked Jimmy to help. It's groups like that that can make people feel good.
